Is CBD Safe for Kids? Let us explain

Posted by Jeremy Shutts on

With all of the information circling around the internet, finding out if CBD is safe for children is rather difficult. So, let us break it down for you.

The short answer, studies suggest yes.

As of January 2021, the only FDA-approved CBD pharmacutical is made specifically for children. It is made to combat epilepsy, called Epidiolex. While many studies have been done on CBD's effects on ailments, it's ability to combat epilepsy is rather inarguable.

What is CBD?

CBD is a compound that was first isolated in 1940 and is found in the Cannabis plant. It has been in use for decades but has recently become widely used and featured in the medical community for its ability to treat anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain and others.

Available in the form of vaping, oils, lotions, coffee, gummies, and many others. CBD is commonly extracted and combined with a carrier oil such as MCT oil. A new development in the CBD industry is the ability to isolate it to be able to make it water soluble, bulstering it's ability to be absorbed into the body and exceed expectations. Not only are adults experimenting with CBD for whatever is bothering them, increasingly parents are turning to CBD to help their kids calm down, focus and get better sleep among others.

How to give it to children?

While there are many different ways to give it to kids, one of the easiest way to give CBD to children is by simply putting water soluble CBD into their morning cup of water or in capsule form, available here

Another great thing about CBD, is that through all of the studies done, there have been no links to any form of dependence on the compound.

As for effectiveness, the World Health Organization noted that several clinical trials had shown effectiveness for epilepsy, adding: “There is also preliminary evidence that CBD may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.”

It is still the early days for CBD in the medical field, but so far the research is suggesting that it is safe for use by children. If you ever have questions regarding how to give CBD to your child, please reach out to us at UnCanny Wellness, we are happy to help and be transparent.

As a general rule, we recommend speaking to your child's physician before giving them any form of CBD.
